Services
I provide individual and couples therapy and I also run different kinds of groups. Some are ongoing and others are thematic and time limited. See announcements for new offerings!
My supervision is grounded in and guided by two modes of knowing and being. The first is Internal Family Systems (IFS) principles and practices. I also teach and we will explore relational mindfulness skills using a practice I developed and call Structured Self-Presence© (SSP). SSP is a wonderful tool that helps to illuminate and navigate the different dimensions of the relational field. It also provides a simple yet profound tool to develop and deepen relational self-presence. This will be a central tool framing and informing our mode of being with ourselves and one another.
While I am happy to offer some didactic teaching and discussion, all consultation groups are primarily experiential. This means that we work with our bodies and make use of our personal psychologies as the instruments for growth and healing that they are. We cannot participate in healing that which awakens fear, hatred, or judgement in us, not, until we have tended these tender bits.
When we are struggling in our work, it generally means that something in us is calling for healing. Consultation groups are a place where, for our own sake and the sake of our clients, we must grow and become more whole. In a sense, we must take healing from our clients and let them show us the way to that, in ourselves, which is in need of healing. Accepting this blessing from our clients helps us to realize more fully the wisdom with which our clients are imbued and realize that they too are part of the healing of the world.
I hope that you will come to know these groups as a kind of spiritual and professional sanctuary and exploratorium.
Within or beyond your church, synagogue or other community, I invite you to find fellow seekers and create a Spiritual Practice Group.
Let me help you create your own “sangha” or psycho-spiritual support group. Together we will:
– Develop/Deepen skills that harmonize mind and body.
– Learn to relate to your body, your emotions, and your history as an ongoing expression of the unfolding life of Spirit.
– Learn how to better serve the life of that unfolding.
Your group can meet one to four times a month. I will teach basic relational mindfulness skills and “Internal Family Systems” theory and practice to help with peacefully navigating psycho-spiritual challenges that are part of the life and growth of any group. Together we can co-create a dynamic group structure and set of practices.
With every training format, you and your team/colleagues can expect to learn simple and effective skills that harmonize mind and body and tap into and serve the wholeness-making impulses that permeate every individual and organizational system.
Transformational Tools
Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Structured Self-Presence (SSP) are practices that help us to see the world with greater clarity, connection, and compassion. They are powerful tools that help us to more effectively make sense of and navigate our inner world and the inner life of our organization or community. Together they help us to greet points of stuckness or conflict and transform them into engines for growth and greater wholeness for ourselves, the systems of which we are a part, and the communities or organizations we serve.
Remembering Our Reason for Being and Doing….
Then and only then, Act!
Remember that we are not the Source of life,
that life, our life, is a gift!
Remember that we are an inextricable part of
the human and non-human community!
Remember that we are stewards of this planet!
With what are we already blessed? Remember and give thanks!
When we remember Whom/What we serve, where we come from , and where we are headed, it awakens compassion, creativity, and clarity! REMEMBER!
Policies
I charge $250 for a 50 minute session and $375 for a 75 minute session.
(I generally prefer to do 75 minute sessions as these provide a more spacious time within which to conduct our healing work. However, I understand that not everybody can afford that.)
Unless alternate arrangements are made, payment, either co-pays or the full fee, are due at the time of your session.
Insurance
I am a provider for few insurance companies. I am a participating provider for Brown University and Rhode Island School of Design student insurance plans. For these companies, I will accept their usual and customary fee schedule.
Insurance can be used only for groups whose focus is psychological healing.
If you have insurance and I am not a provider you may want to do the following:
– Call your insurer and ask what they will pay for a “non-participating licensed clinical psychologist.”
– Some insurers will pay something, even a lot, for non-participating providers.
– I am happy to do the billing for you. It will be your job to pay me up front for the cost of your sessions.
I charge $250 per hour. Group supervision is generally most cost effective, powerful, and fun. Find one or more – up to six – colleagues and share the cost of a 90 minute or two hour supervision experience. If there is significant travel involved, cost of travel and travel time become a negotiated added expense.
Copy materials are extra. Groups generally run between ninety minutes and two hours. For custom workshops and training, my fee schedule varies according to the needs of your organization and the nature of our collaboration.
If you need/want to cancel a scheduled appointment, please give me 24 hours notice. If you do not give me 24 hours notice, you—not your insurance company—will be responsible for the entire cost of the session.
I try to be flexible about these policies. If I am able to find someone to fill your scheduled session slot, you will not be charged for the late cancellation.
Exceptions:
Death of friends or family or serious illness sometimes come without notice. I will not bill you for missed sessions or late cancellations due to a death or if you are experiencing a sudden unexpected serious illness.
When it comes to winter, I am like the mail man; neither rain, nor snow… will keep me from being in my office. When it snows and the plows have not yet had a chance to clear the roads, I will leave it up to you to decide whether or not you feel comfortable driving or being out and about. Under these circumstances, I will not charge you for late cancellations.
